Insurance
CWLs will be insured by Outdoor Recreation NI annually and will have Public Liability cover.
Summary of Benefits:
Public Liability insurance protects CWLs for claims brought against them for property damage and/or bodily injury as a result of any negligence on the part of the affiliated Club and/or its registered walkers.
The cover applies to all sanctioned activities of walking including:
• Leading walks anywhere in the UK and Ireland. All walks must be on designated paths within the guidelines of the scheme
• Giving advice on walking
CWLs must adhere to the ‘Code of Practice’ as part of the scheme. To be covered by the insurance policy, CWLs as a minimum must:
Walk in recommended walking areas in the scheme:
• Towpaths
• Parks, nature reserves
• Country lanes
• Open green spaces in urban areas
• Urban walking routes on footpaths
• Coastal paths and beaches (non-tidal)
• Sections of the Waymarked Ways that adhere to the guidelines outlined above
All Community Walk Leaders must:
• Have their details registered with Outdoor Recreation NI
• Complete a Walk Log for each walk and a Walker’s Registration Form for each walker
